How does a game of Diablo: Unbound play?

You choose a class and take it through three acts. Each act has three dungeon levels filled with monsters that grow tougher, and each act ends with a unique boss. Fights combine deck building and dice rolling. Between fights you visit a town to spend resources, manage loot and respecialise. Finish all three acts and Torment mode unlocks.

That is the whole structure the publisher has described so far. It comes from Glass Cannon Unplugged’s (GCU) announcement post, and the overview guide has the wider picture, including the four classes.

Six numbered steps: choose a class, clear a dungeon level, visit the town, repeat for three levels, end the act with its unique boss, and after act three unlock Torment mode.

How long does a game take?

GCU’s blog says a dungeon level takes about 60 to 90 minutes and a full act about 3 to 4.5 hours. GCU says you can play an act in one sitting or in shorter sessions, thanks to a save system. The Gamefound page shows a play time of 90 minutes but does not say what it measures, so we do not try to reconcile it with the blog’s figures. GameSpot and GamesRadar+ report similar durations.

Playing time as the publisher lists it: a dungeon level takes about 60 to 90 minutes, a full act about 3 to 4.5 hours, the Gamefound page shows a play time of 90 minutes, and a save system allows shorter sessions.

How do you get loot in Diablo: Unbound?

The blog lists five sources: opening chests, completing side quests, hunting Treasure Goblins, building Kill Streaks by fighting successive hordes of monsters, and killing Elite monsters. The game page adds that your loot comes from your class’s dedicated equipment deck, so gear is tied to the class you play.

GameSpot reports that bosses hold the best gear. GCU has not said that itself, so we mark it as reported. The town phase is where you manage what you found: GCU says you can open a portal to town to improve skills, manage loot and respecialise.

Five ways to get loot: chests, side quests, Treasure Goblins, Kill Streaks by beating successive hordes, and Elite monsters. GameSpot also reports that bosses hold the best gear, which the publisher has not confirmed.

What is Torment mode?

Torment mode is the endgame. According to GCU, it unlocks once you complete the pre-designed three-act structure. After that you assemble your own runs from the game’s building blocks: dungeons, monster families such as the Khazra and the Undead, and bosses. GCU also says the game has no single linear narrative.

Polygon’s report says any boss can be faced “regardless of their tier, in its ultimate form, balanced to challenge a party of endgame characters.” GameSpot describes the same idea as a group choosing any boss to face. GamesRadar+ adds that each boss has unique attacks, a lair and several combat stages. No full boss list has been published, so we cannot tell you which bosses will exist. Specific Torment rules, such as how difficulty scales or what it rewards, are not announced either.

Can you play Diablo: Unbound solo?

Yes. GCU’s game page lists one to four players with a dedicated solo mode, and GameSpot’s headline leads with it. What a solo run changes, for example how many heroes you control or whether the monsters are adjusted, is not in any official page we could find. We will add it when GCU publishes it.

Can I try Diablo: Unbound before the campaign?

There are two official ways. First, SPIEL Essen runs from 22 to 25 October 2026, and GCU says four demo tables are open through the whole event in Hall 1, booth C611 (“Gates of Sanctuary”). Second, GCU runs playtests on Tabletop Simulator and invites players to share feedback in its official Discord. After Essen closes we will update this section with what the show floor revealed.

Ways to try the game early. SPIEL Essen demos run 22 to 25 October 2026 in Hall 1 at booth C611 with four tables. Tabletop Simulator playtests run through the publisher's Discord. The full rulebook is not published.

Where are the full rules?

Not published. A GCU staff member wrote on Gamefound that everything is subject to change, including rules, assets and artwork. Treat every mechanic on this page as the publisher’s current description, not as final. Check the release tracker for when the campaign opens, and the price and editions page for the cost questions.
