Is Diablo: Unbound based on Diablo 4?

Not only. A Glass Cannon Unplugged (GCU) staff member replied to a question on the Gamefound page that the board game is not tied to one specific Diablo title. It takes what they call the best of Diablo across the whole series, from Diablo I to IV, and that explicitly includes Diablo II. We mark this as reported, because it is a staff reply and not text on the game page.

Four tiles for Diablo I, Diablo II, Diablo III and Diablo IV, with Diablo II named explicitly in a staff reply. A Glass Cannon Unplugged staff comment on Gamefound says the game is not tied to one specific title.

What does “the best of Diablo” mean in practice?

The publisher’s game page says the game draws from the broader history of the franchise, and it is built around four mix-and-match building blocks: classes, dungeons, monster families and bosses. GCU’s blog gives monster family examples, the Khazra and the Undead, without a complete list. The same blog says there is no single linear narrative, because the game combines content from across the series instead of retelling one game.

That is the part that is confirmed. The part that is only reported comes from the staff reply, which also lists references the team has in mind: Diablo, the Butcher, Deckard Cain, Tristram, Kurast and Westmarch. The reply does not say which of them appear in the box or how, so we do not promise any of them in the final game. The same reply says everything is subject to change.

Answer ledger. Based on one game: no, not tied to one specific game (reported). Covers Diablo I to IV including Diablo II (reported). Story: no single linear narrative (confirmed). Named references: Diablo, the Butcher, Deckard Cain, Tristram, Kurast and Westmarch (reported).

What do the classes say about the source material?

Four classes were announced: Barbarian, Rogue, Sorceress and Paladin. Planszowe Newsy reports the Paladin can be built toward a Hammerdin or a Zealot, names that long-time Diablo II players will recognise. That is a hint, not proof of a single source game, and we treat it as colour rather than evidence. The overview guide covers all four classes.

Why do searches mix it with Diablo IV?

The name “Diablo: Unbound” overlaps with video game content, so search results can show Diablo IV pages next to the board game. This wiki covers the board game only. If a page talks about a video game patch, character build or season, it is about a different product. For the board game, the how to play guide sets out what the publisher has described so far.

What has the publisher not listed yet?

The roster is incomplete. The publisher has not listed all classes beyond the first four, all monster families, all bosses or all dungeons. Until it does, any claim that a particular boss or area from a specific Diablo game is in the box is a guess. We will add entries when GCU publishes them, and mark the rest not announced. The release tracker follows what has been announced as the pre-launch continues.

Gaps in the roster. Full class roster: four named, more possible. Monster families: Khazra, Undead and others, no full list. Boss roster: no full list. Dungeon list: no full list. All four are not announced.
